Bulk material calculators
Everything sold by the cubic yard — gravel, topsoil, mulch, sand and asphalt. Each gives cubic yards and tons with an editable density.
Bulk landscaping and paving materials are sold by the cubic yard, and often quoted by the ton — so the useful number depends on which the supplier uses. Each calculator here gives both, using a published density you can edit, because moisture, gradation and compaction all shift the real weight. Gravel runs about 1.5 tons per cubic yard, topsoil 1.1, sand 1.3, asphalt a heavy 2.0, and mulch a light 0.4 — so the same volume can mean very different tonnage and cost.
These complement the concrete calculators: identical cubic-yard math, different material densities. For the compacted sub-base under a slab specifically, the gravel base calculator adds a compaction allowance; for a driveway, the driveway gravel guide covers the layered-base reality. See the methodology for every density and its source.
